Ann has been battling depression for a while, which has caused her to be mostly house-ridden, feeding into her self-pity. Because of this, her relationship with her family has suffered. She misses the husband that used to care for her, but she can't deny that they've both changed. When the donkey comes into their lives she can't help but feel replaced, causing her to evaluate her own behavior and choices.
