IndieWorks: February 2015 Recap

Last Wednesday was the February edition of IndieWorks, and in spite of the freezing weather and snow, we still had 45-50 people in house! It was our Valentine's Day themed screening with 6 creative shorts that insightfully and often with much humor explored the complexity of love, relationships and sexuality. It was a sweet, sometimes sexy and often funny night!

Thank you everyone who came out to support the filmmakers and spend the evening with us. We hope you enjoyed all the films and the opportunity to network with other filmmakers and film enthusiasts!

The films of the night:

Except for Us (Directed by Peter LaSala & Christopher Ventura)
John travels through time to save his failing blind date with Kim.

L'Amore Conto (Directed by Valentina Vincenzini)
Giulia and Lorenzo are two Italians at their first date, drinking an espresso in New York City. After a while Lorenzo becomes impatient and spills the beans... they're in a short film.

The Girl Who Reads (Directed by Isabella Tan)
Because a life in purgatory is better than a minute in hell.

Mating (Directed by Chris Ungco)
A gay man tries to go straight. A comedy.

Sumi ( Directed by Rachael Grace/Written by Hye Yun Park)
Sumi is an artist, living with a musician in Brooklyn. There are bills to pay, so Sumi teaches English using...unusual techniques. Thin walls and great curiosity lead to a budding relationship between roommates.

Micky (Directed by Charlotte Istel)
Micky doesn’t love her boyfriend anymore, but her relationship with pasta is, and always will be, unshakable. After a dream in which her friend Jane spoon-feeds her spaghetti tits-out naked, she reluctantly begins to ponder her sexuality.

The awards go to...

At the end of the evening, we announced our winning filmmakers for both Audience Choice Award & Silver Whiskers Award. The Audience Choice Award is voted upon by all those in attendance, and the Silver Whiskers is judged by the CongestedCat Team based on a system rating 8 categories of Story, Dialogue/Writing, Direction, Acting, Cinematography, Sound, Editing, and Production Value. It goes on to screen at our end of year Best of Fest event in April.

The Silver Whiskers winner also receives $50 towards a crowdfunding campaign on SeedandSpark.com should they use the platform, and both winners received a free subscription to Bright Ideas Magazine

For the February 2015 lineup, our winning filmmakers were:
    Audience Choice Award:  "Micky"
    Silver Whiskers Award:  "Mating"

We hope you'll join us to see "Mating" screen again with our other Silver Whisker winners of the year at our 2nd Annual Best of Fest on April 8th. In the meantime, though, don't miss our last monthly screening of Year 2 where 6 more wonderful short films will screen and our final Silver Whisker Award of the year will be awarded in 2 weeks at the March edition of IndieWorks!
